1973 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 712M “6x6 Former Swiss fire truck, excellent mechanically, good cosmetic patina

The truck on offer here is this wonderful 1973 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 712M. This 712M is a six-wheel-drive, light military off-road troop carrier; It was used as a fire truck for 20 years by the Swiss Alps Municipality of Court in Bern. Because it was used as a municipal fire truck, it was superbly maintained and has low miles. It was used to take crews and equipment up to forest fires, rescue families and bust through heavy snow, flooded roads or no roads to save the day!! It features portal axles driven by a 2.7L air-cooled inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, a dual-range transfer case, and locking differentials. It is finished in red with a removable YELLOW soft top roof and GRAY vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes steel wheels with COOPER DISCOVERER TIRES (Date coded 2005) folding bench seats in the cargo area, 24-volt wiring, the truck starts easily, runs well and is easy to drive. a tool kit, a wheel chock, a recovery cable, a shovel, a fuel can, and a clean Connecticut registration. The 6×6 Pinzgauer 712M was an evolution of the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch Haflinger 4×4 military off-road vehicle of the late 1960s; this truck features a removable yellow canvas top (in sound shape but showing discoloration) over the cargo area. Braking is handled by six-wheel drums, and the truck features three portal axles for increased ground clearance. The interior features two bucket seats upholstered in vinyl in the forward cab; they are in fine working condition, but show some wear. The instrumentation consists of a 100-km/h speedometer along with a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 69,420 kilometers (approx. 42k miles). Two folding bench seats running the length of the cargo area can be folded to create a flat load floor. The 2.7L air-cooled inline-four is mounted between the front seats. The engine starts easily, runs well and has good power and torque. Power is transferred to all six wheels through a synchronized five-speed manual transaxle and a synchronized dual-range transfer case that allows for engaging and disengaging on the fly. The front and rear differentials can be locked via a lever on the dash. Buy with confidence, as this truck is in “driver condition”; it is mechanically excellent and shows a nice patina cosmetically. The 5-speed transmission shifts well and the clutch engages with authority. It can't be emphasized enough how easily this truck drives. It is great fun!!
