The world was recovering from World War II and the British auto industry was ramping up production to try and keep up with the demand of the young GI’s coming home from war. Morris Garage (MG) was one of many companies involved in the production of small sports cars. The MG tc was produced by the thousands and became the mainstay of post war sports cars in the US. Few good examples of these cars remain and are beginning to become very collectable. The car on offer here is a stunning, fully restored, 1949 MG Tc EXU. The EXU is one of the rarest variants of the TC. The car is Clipper Blue with a Vellum Beige interior. This is a collector grade car, restored to a very high standard, and may be one of the finest on the market. It has its original drivetrain as verified by its official TC registration certificate. This MG is the EXU model, intended for export to the U.S. The EXU features numerous differences over the cars destined for Britain. The most noticeable are the bumpers, very pretty and rather delicate. The external horn was changed to dual horns under the hood. The large Lucas driving lamps now mounted are accessories; there were no extra lights originally mounted. The headlights are the S700 Lucas style, slightly smaller than the European cars. High-mounted tail lights with built-in signals are correct for the EXU as is the central license plate bracket. The steering wheel is an accessory Brooklands style. The instrument panel is laid out differently and there is a high beam indicator in the place of the fog lamp switch. The Paintwork on this car is amazing as is the interior and the engine compartment is correctly detailed. It runs and drives as well as it looks; the engine starts easily puts out good power. The transmission shifts as it should and the car is a joy to drive. One of only 494 EXU models built, this a rare car indeed. The car is stunning from every angle, and attention has been paid to every detail. Driven approximately 500 miles since the restoration; the car is fully sorted.
