The Classic Car Gallery is proud to offer this stunning Custom 1971 LAND ROVER SERIES IIa 88 truck. This is a one of a kind truck, built to the highest standards and with no expense spared. The truck started life as a clean 1971 Series IIa, and has been transformed into what must be one of the finest running and driving Series trucks in existence today. The truck was reengineered to incorporate a PERKINS TURBO diesel engine, parabolic coil spring spring suspension, a defender 90 interior and much more. This Landy was built with no expense spared and was restored with an open checkbook. All components of the body were separated from the frame and brought down to bare metal and resprayed individually. Every portion of the drivetrain was pulled from the car and was either replaced or refurbished. Some of the upgrades; 2 liter Perkins TURBO Diesel LT-77 Full Synchro 5 speed from a d90 Full Coil Spring Suspension Disc Brakes Defender 90 doors with roll up windows Safari top Defender 90 seats New fully galvanized frame Range rover axles Galvanized bulkhead LT-230 Series Transfer Case Late IIa-III brake booster This truck has been reengineered to give the iconic Land Rover Series IIa look while offering the economy, off road capability and utility of a much more modern truck. Extensive photo documentation of the build is available and has been chronicled on enthusiast Rover websites. The PERKINS TURBO diesel engine offers great economy (30 mpg!!!) while allowing easy highway cruising speeds (70 mph). The truck features a CUT DOWN REAR BULKHEAD, allowing the use of fully adjustable DEFENDER 90 SEATS; this modification alone offers a huge improvement in comfort over the originals. Additionally the truck utilizes DEFENDER 90 doors and roll up windows. The coil spring suspension completely changes the driving experience of the truck. The car has a disc brake conversion and stops like a modern truck. She wears the famous Land Rover SAFARI top with an excellent headliner and working vents. No longer a farm implement, this truck runs and drives like a much more modern truck vehicle and is way more civilized than a typical Series truck could ever hope to be. Either on road or off, this truck combines the best of the old and the new.
